  • The Gardiner Water District Notifies Planned Demolition of Abandoned Pump Station
Gardiner, ME. The Gardiner Water District (District) wishes to notify the public of a planned demolition of an abandoned drinking water pump station located at 605 Water Street. The brick building, vintage 1903, has been abandoned for many years, is in disrepair and beyond repair, also poses a safety risk to the public and District staff if not addressed. Keeping public safety top of mind, the District has a controlled demolition plan for the building and associated infrastructure which will be executed during the summer/fall of 2023 by professional contractors McGee Construction. All materials will be removed and properly disposed of by qualified contractors and a hazardous materials removal specialist in accordance with State and Federal Regulations. Restoration for the site includes a chain-link security fence, protective guard-rails, and infilling and capping of the building foundation to retard deterioration of the lower structure which is contiguous with the dam structure.
